Contains the following types of materials: photographs, photo albums. Covers the following war: World War II (WWII). Contains photographs of the following military units and organizations: Various (U.S., German, and French). General description of the collection: The John E. Dahlquist photograph collection includes a few photos for the early years of Dahlquist's career. Most of the photos deal with his career following his promotion to brigadier general (temporary) in April 1942. There is good coverage of his activities in various assignments during WWII. Numerous albums cover his visits to various installations after WWII and show field exercises, parades, retreats, parties, and receptions. Several of the photo albums deal exclusively with his family, family vacations, friends, hunting trips, and his dogs. These are nonmilitary and comprise a large number of the total of the collection. Many of these are during his retirement years.

General John E. Dahlquist served in the United States (U.S.) Army from 1917-1956 beginning his career in Reserve Officers' Training Corps (R.O.T.C.) at the University of Minnesota from which he graduated in 1917 and was commissioned a second lieutenant, Infantry Reserve. He did not see service during World War I, but served with the Army of Occupation in Magen, Germany (1919-1922).
